By Popular Demand, Newegg is Now Accepting Bitcoin

You asked for it and we delivered. Starting today, all of our 25 million registered users can now pay for more than 10.5 million products with bitcoin. Many of our customers are some of the earliest bitcoin adopters and we believe that accepting cryptocurrency adds yet another convenient and secure way to fulfill our shopper’s needs. Everything from electronics, computers, game consoles, and more, can now be purchased through your digital bitcoin wallet.

This momentous occasion coincides with the California governor’s decision to sign a bill which legalizes bitcoin and other digital currencies as a form of payment. This new law reverses prohibition against the use of anything but U.S. currency for commerce and further legitimizes bitcoin as an alternative payment option. It also emphasizes the fact that consumers clearly want choices when it comes to making online purchases.

“Adopting bitcoin as a payment method is another way we’re responding to our customers’ diverse needs. Working with BitPay to implement a bitcoin payment option at Newegg was a seamless process and our partnership gives us the capabilities we require for high-volume e-commerce.”

– Soren Mills, Chief Marketing Officer for Newegg North America

We chose to partner with BitPay because they provide the fastest, most reliable bitcoin integration on the planet. Trusted by over 35,000 merchants, BitPay offers instant conversion of your money with no transaction fees. BitPay also takes the bitcoin exchange risk and guarantees Newegg customers will always get the best rate on the market. With 99.9% uptime, their reliability is unrivaled in the industry.

“Our mission is to make bitcoin every merchant’s favorite form of payment. Forward-thinking merchants like Newegg allow bitcoin enthusiasts from around the world to shop with ease. Newegg has been the most requested retailer from the bitcoin community and our collaboration will serve this pent-up demand.”

– Tony Gallippi, BitPay’s Co-founder and Executive Chairman

Completing orders on Newegg with bitcoin is easy and can be completed in five easy steps:

  1. Select your desired shipping option
  2. Select “bitcoin” under Payment Methods
  3. Review your order information and check the box to agree to Newegg’s Terms and Conditions
  4. Select your preferred bitcoin payment option (digital wallet software, digital wallet website, or QR code)
  5. Successfully processed invoices will show “Paid” after funds are transferred

Bitcoin is one of the most innovative payment networks of all time because it uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or bank regulation. And because its design is open source, nobody owns or controls bitcoin. Instead, the network is completely controlled by anyone that takes part in transactions or issues bitcoin to others. The end result is a payment system that allows for exciting uses not covered by any other type of currency.

Newegg’s acceptance of bitcoin is important because it gives our customers more power and control over their finances. Bitcoin is also inexpensive to send or accept and because it’s anonymous, the risk of identity theft and fraud is minimal. Newegg is proud to be one of the growing number of business to accept bitcoin and are excited to see what the future of cryptocurrency means for our company and, most of all, our shoppers.

I am trying to pay with bitcoin in the USA and do not see the option under billing. Do I need to add it as an option myself? How?
